Quake in Sumatra.

It was 12:09am in the morning in Penang, Malaysia. I shutdown my laptop and was ready to get to bed. Before I could stand up, I heard a vase near to my house television making some noise. Then I felt something wrong, the building was shaking. I knew it was earthquake.

Seconds later, my sister called me. She informed that Nibong Tebal, my sisters and I need to precaution if something terrible wrong happened, we must evacuate the building. A minute past, I heard a few ham in Penang island complaint about the quake and could not make any mobile phone calls. The phone lines were jam out.

All the information was real and was first hand story. I heard everything that on my walkie talkie and talked by all amateur radio operators in Penang, Bukit Mertajam, Seberang Prai and Parit Buntar. Fire brigade was ready to go out and help if something happened around Bukit Mertajam area.

For your information, one of 2 repeaters in Penang Hill was out of service. The operated repeater was got fixed two weeks ago. Thanks to the Motorola employee who went there and fixed the repeater. If the employee did not go there to fix it, all radio communication would be affected.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for Motorola employees and Motorola to set up the repeater in Penang Hill.

73 to whover read this blog. Thanks and stay alert and always ready to take action.

Poor Business Part II.

One of my friends advised me no to run a business but worked as a normal employee. Other friends said if I did not run business, I would not get richer. I agree the second statement but will not fully sponsor this argument. Why? If one runs a business, one does not gurantee s/he can success in this fast changing business environment. One year success in business, it does not gurantee that the business will continue to grow futher.

Look at some companies in USA. Some companies have big cash on hand pre-911. Post 911, some of those companies went backcrupt. Why? Poor management? I do not know. If you know the answer, please tell me. I do not have a business related degree.

During the Malaysia economic crisis, many multinational and local companies laid off their employees. Many employees could not find job in that period. Many of them started their low capital business such as selling food, noodle and etc to make end meet. They cannot withdraw their EPF not until they reach 55 years old.

When gas price increases, everyone is shouting. Days or weeks later, consumer products and transportation companies urge the government to incrase their products or service price if the products or service price controlled by Malaysia government.

Who will suffer a lot? Definitely, it is the poor man. The rich man does not care. Why should s/he care about it? The poor man will always claim no money to survive and tighten their belt to overcome the hard time. To make the matter worser, they do not have pay increment. What to do next is the big question mark.

Last but certainly, let the pray the inflation is maintain at healthy level so that everyone will be happy. :)

Poor Business In A Complex. Part I.

In Farlim, Penang, there is a newly completed complex, Farlim Complex. The lowest level is wet market. Second level is foodcourt and car park. Fifth and sixth levels are shoplots.

The complex had been opened for more than a year. Initially, many shop owners thought it would be a great place to do business. Some shoplot owners buy the shoplot from the developer and let it out. Others bought and run their business there. More than one year and half is gone now, the complex is very quite all the time. The shoplot owners complain about no patrol customers, no air conditional in the complex. How are they running their business? To make matter worser, they have to pay monthly maintain fee to the developer.

A few shop owners have stopped their business and move to other strategic locations. Only a few shop owners try to stay there because they do not want to waste their deposit money. They are willing to run their business at loss.

One of my friends is renting a shoplot there. At the beginning, he opened his shop every day from noon to night. After a few months, he complaint no business and could not survive if he did not work outside. As such, he started to look for a job in this poor market. He found it and worked as sales executive for 3 months. During this three months, he frequently went back to his shop and run the business despite it was his working hours.

After 3 months, he moved to new a new company and also as sales executive. This time, he is not as lucky as before. He seldom went to shop because he has a target to meet. If he does not market his company products, he is not going to survive.

He said he was willing to open on weekend and worked on weekdays. If he did not work, he was not going to survive.

What will you do if you were him? You have a wife and a mother to take care. Will you choose his path or continue to run the business?

The story is not over. It will continue tomorrow. Stay tuned....

Stock market.

The stock market is interesting place to earn or loss money in seconds. In USA stock markets, one can loss million dollars in one second thanks to the high volume trading.

For the past few years, I have been thought whether technical analysis can help me to earn more money from stock market. For investors or traders, they may claim it is possible and some may disagree. For me, the technical analysis does not guarantee one will success if one follow exactly what financial books say. It is totally depending on our luck.

Buying stock is darn easy compare to sell. When comes to selling stock, one has two thinkings. First, the stock price will go up. I do not want to sell. Second option, I am losing money. If I sell it, I may not be earning back my hard earn money. These two thinkings are definitely true for novice traders and investors. They do not know when to sell their stocks.

In Malaysia, only 100 counters are eligible to consider as Bursa Malaysia Index. What does 100 counters mean to investors or investors? When the index will go up, many people will think the whoever invests in the stock market will earn good income. They never think that some counters are heading south. Not all counter are going up. It is also true for Bursa Malaysia is down. When the stock market is down, nobody says how much the investors or traders lose their hard earning money.

Last but certainly not least, my advice for novice traders or investors is you do not apply bank loans to park in your stock market. You may lose all your money. The best method is that only invest if you have extra money. Try to read some financial planning books or magazines to build up your assets but reduce your liabilities if any.

The world is not the same.

Today world is different in 20th century. We have more wars and natural disasters than before.

On December 26th, 2004 morning, a quake hit Indonesia and created massive wave or tsunami. It was the first hit the Asia. The India and Malacca Straits had not encountered any tsunami before, the community did not realize the danger of it. As such, many people got killed.

On other hand, a few hams had helped Thailand government to respond for the communication needs. During the disaster, the best communication is walkie talkie (does not matter it is portable or mobile). As long as it can transmit and receive is a good equipment.

Penang island near to Golden Sand Resort area, patrol cars could transmit their police radio frequency to the Penang police headquarter. Civil Defence Force does not have a repeater and cannot report their rescue operation to the base, too. Thanks to Motorola Penang, they provide some helps such as set up a temporarily repeater for the police. The Penang government let some walkie talkie to the Civil Defence Force for their operation.

Certain people will tell you that this year is not a good year. There will be natural disasters here and there. In short, we should prepare for any worse happen to us.
